WTC gives to community

March 12, 2010 - Western Technology Center and its administration and staff would like to thank the dentists and volunteers for making the 6th annual “Give a Kid a Smile” a success last month.  More than 300 2nd and 3rd graders from Weatherford West Elementary students made this year’s community service project an eventful one.
Dr. Phillips, Dr. Stephens, Dr. Wood, and Dr. Villines, assisted by the WTC dental assisting students, volunteered their time to screen each elementary student, while the OU/WTC senior hygiene students and instructors educated the students of good oral hygiene with hands-on activities. Jan Cole, school nurse, helped coordinate this event, and Delta Dental donated toothbrushes, tooth paste, floss, and coloring activities for the students to enjoy. Thank you again from the staff and students at WTC!

WTC Hosts Dr. Mary Ann Bauman, M.D.

March 8, 2010 - Western Technology Center hosted Mary Bauman, M.D., medical director of Women’s Health and Community Relations at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center, last week.  Bauman spent the day visiting with more than 550 area junior and senior boys and girls about health issues they may experience.

“Instructors give students a great foundation for their academic future, and I am here to give them information about health issues that they could face as they go out on their own,” Bauman said.

Students are encouraged to ask anonymous questions and interact with Bauman as she presents in-depth information on topics relevant to teenage and early adult health.

“It was a great opportunity for area young people to interact with a medical professional and ask health questions,” said Becky Trent, WTC counselor.  “Next year we hope to offer a similar program to area eighth graders.”
